Out of the box, AirTags play sounds. AirTags can make up to four sounds depending on what’s happening. The sound from an AirTag is referred to as a chime or a chirp and is played directly from the AirTag’s built-in speaker.

Users hoping to change an AirTag’s chime or chirp sound will be disappointed. Despite having a built-in speaker, there is no feature available to let you customize or change an AirTag’s sound. Even within the Find My app there is no option to change sounds.

Can You Turn Off An AirTag’s Sound?

You can stop an AirTag from beeping from within the Find My app, however, you cannot permanently turn off an AirTag’s sound without a modification to the AirTag itself.

You can purchase a modified AirTag that claims to have no sound. However, these AirTags have been modified from the original AirTag design, where the built-in speaker has been removed. Buyers should be aware that this AirTag modification will void the Apple warranty.
